On one page you summed up the motivation of the PC/NPC(?) very well. Excellent work. Also, funny as hell...Sarkin cracks me up.

Thanks! PC / NPC doesn't matter much when you are writing a comic. But at this point she's a main character.

It's always a balance between enjoying a dramatic moment and cracking up at a dumb joke.

From what I understand about the myth of Dwarven women having beards, it has to do with the males sequestering the women *because* they are so rare. By Dwarven law, any female Dwarf that goes outside of the Dwarven holdings must be accompanied by either their husband or their closest male relative. Like our lovely little Dwarf here, some decide to get out when they have an opportunity but *unlike* our little Dwarf, they will put on a false beard & try to pass as a male Dwarf.

The topic of braiding beards is entirely a male thing & their braiding is a display of social status and/or position of distinction. I would figure that the Dwarf Illerya met might have been a female Dwarf gone AWOL by using a false beard. Sheild Maidens (female warriors) are the only females that can go out without either escort or disguise.

Mild correction, it was Hawkeye's Grandfather who talked about the women dwarves having lovely beards. There are many different interpretations of female dwarves out there. One of the best ones is She-Dwarf. https://www.shedwarf.com/

I tried to stick with what was cannon in Mystara lore, but there isn't much detail, even in The Dwarves of Rockhome Gazetteer. So I came up with the 1 in 10 idea to explain why there were so few female dwarves walking around, and the cultural motivation for why Frya is who she is came as a direct result of that.
